Other than Daniel Sturridge coming in for the injured Jordan Henderson, it was an unchanged eleven on less than 48 hours rest that lined up against Sunderland in Liverpool's first game of 2017. Their tiredness showed, especially in the second half when they struggled to look consistently dangerous against a Sunderland side happy to soak up pressure and only occasionally attempt the counter.
