Kuyt To Wijnaldum: Make Sure You Beat The Mancs

Dirk Kuyt knows a thing or two about beating Manchester United. Probably most memorably with his hat trick in 2011. The Dutchman became the first player since 1900 to score a hat trick against the rivals and isn’t likely to forget it anytime soon. (Neither is anybody else, understandably). Kuyt sent a message to Georginio Wijnaldum on Friday though a new LFCTV feature, challenging the midfielder to do the same this Sunday.

“I want to know, are you looking forward to the big derby against Manchester United and can you make a hat-trick like me?” The former player asked cheekily in a feature that had questions from former and current teammates leading up to the match at Old Trafford. Wijnaldum also spoke about his eagerness to contribute and take part in the historic derby.

"It's a massive game and I am looking forward to it. I was looking forward to it after the game at home [in October] because I could not play,” Wijnaldum said. The midfielder was injured when the two sides met in October after the international break, missing out on a dismal 0-0 draw.

"I was a bit sad because that is one of the biggest games in the world, but I was injured that time, so now I am fit and I have a chance to play in that game,” he continued.

One can only hope that with his continued fitness, we see a little flash of brilliance like the header against City just a few weeks ago. And with Jordan Henderson still a question, his efforts will be more important than ever.
