Did you think that the transfer speculation would end now that the summer window has come to a close? Oh, my sweet summer child.
Constant summer transfer target Mahmoud Dahoud appears to still be on Klopp’s radar, despite the manager’s inability to secure the Gladbach midfielder for Liverpool.
German press is reporting that Klopp sent scouts to watch Dahoud take on the Finland U-21s with the German U-21s on Tuesday. Germany won the UEFA Under-21 Championship qualifying match 1-0. Dahoud started the match and played 84 solid minutes before being subbed out for Dominik Kohr.
News of Klopp sending scouts shouldn’t come as a surprise, considering the manager’s alleged interest in the player. It’s unlikely that this will be the last we hear about him in connection with Liverpool in the run up to the January transfer window.
Gladbach is keen to keep Dahoud onboard and insist that he’s not for sale, but Liverpool may have turned the player’s head this summer with their pursuit of him. There’s also vague rumors about a release clause in his contract that could be triggered in 2017.
On another note, it’s possible that if we notch a certain number of these Dahoud stories, it’ll score us a toaster — and then toast for everyone! Huzzah!
