With the summer transfer window shut, one would hope for a few weeks of rest from the endless drone of transfer rumors. Instead, Liverpool fans have dealt with ongoing reports about player movement over the past week.
But it's news about a near-miss signing that has become an interesting story for the Reds. Despite Jürgen Klopp indicating he wasn't in for a left back at the time, Barcelona director Robert Fernandez insisted in a recent interview that the team had tried to sign fullback Lucas Digne.
Digne went on to join Barcelona for a £13.8 Million fee.
"PSG already had an offer from a good English team," Fernandez said. "But when we got in touch with the manager told us that the player only wanted to come to Barcelona."
Liverpool were that English team interested in Digne, according to the Mirror. So for fans upset at the Reds for not pursuing a left back reinforcement this summer, there is reason to believe that discussions for such a player took place. Still, it's disappointing that nothing was completed.
