Klopp on Net-Spend: No One Congratulated Me!

As is the case with every other aspect of managing, Klopp has his own, special way of doing things.

Before the transfer window opened, Liverpool fans and journalists alike salivated at the reported £70+ million “war chest” set aside for the summer window. Despite the lack of European football in the upcoming campaign, no one considered the possibility that the club could actually finish the summer making money off transfers.

That, of course, is exactly what happened, much to the chagrin of many in Liverpool Country. Jürgen Klopp, as he is wont to do, had a completely different reaction.

“Nobody has congratulated me!” The Liverpool boss joked, “To be honest, I’m not interested in expectations and opinions from outside. We did our job and we all think we did it really good. Now we have to prove it.”

If Klopp is sick of answering questions about the transfer window, it would be perfectly understandable. I’m certainly sick of writing about his answers! By now all fans and pundits should know his stance on training vs. transfers, and his strong preference for the former. This stance is particularly true when he could not land some of his top targets.

While many could name at least two positions in need of strengthening, Klopp though the window was plenty busy enough as is.

“A busy transfer window like that shouldn’t happen too often. And it will not happen. But we all agreed on this. I’ve been here 11 months now and this is what we needed to do in the summer.”

So, the window’s been closed nearly two weeks. Let’s move on and start talking about bringing in a leftback and/or defensive mid in the next window, shall we?
