Following news last week that Stoke City had bid for 17-year-old Borussia Dortmund and USMNT winger Christian Pulisic, on Friday Liverpool moved for the rising star, making an £11M bid. Today, Germany’s Kicker is reporting the bid has been rejected.

However, Liverpool are expected to come back with an improved offer for the player, who has two years to go on his current deal and has so far been resistant to signing a new one following a summer where Dortmund have added depth at his position.

Andre Schurrle, Mario Gotze, Ousmane Dembele, Emre Mor. Dortmund have brought in a wealth of depth at Pulisic’s position following the departure of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and that could make it difficult for the young American to get minutes this season.

Pulisic, though, is still just 17 years old, and so the question is whether he would actually push for a move at this stage in his career or if he’s willing to stay at the club that gave him his chance in the first place and wait. So far, at least, he hasn’t pushed.

Last season, Pulisic made 12 total first team appearances for Dortmund, scoring two goals. By most accounts, Pulisic stands as the best young prospect the United States has yet produced and that country’s best chance at having a true global star.
