This game showed again what we can do, how we can play. It was not only about pressing and things like this
So said our favorite manager, Jürgen Klopp in the aftermath of today’s game against Tottenham Hotspurs. “We did it really good, but we’re really flexible in offensive defending. We had wonderful moments with passing and all that stuff, the direction in our game,” he continued.
And so it was, Reds. A perfect encapsulation of the season to date: flying Reds, tripped up by lax defending and a failure to capitalize on some gilt-edged chances. But there was reason for encouragement.
Short a missed Coutinho early opportunity, which he slots nines times out of ten, and a dicey offside call, Liverpool were ascendant. The defending on Danny Rose’s goal was poor, to be sure, but many other days we take three points.
We have to accept it. We showed again that we can be really good and that’s what we have to show in each game and then everything will be good.
Facts on the ground, See, e.g., “ [Monk]: ‘How can I escape this cold and heat?’ [Master] Tozan replied, ‘why not go where there is no cold and heat?’ ‘Is there such a place,’ the monk asked. Tozan replied, ‘when cold, be thoroughly cold; when hot, be hot through and through.’”
Today was a performance to take confidence from. The Reds looked lively and thoroughly outplayed Tottenham. To be fair, we also failed to put away our chances, which frays the nerves.
As one who believes Klopp keeps it one hundred, pretty fair assessment of today’s performance. More than a little irritating to drop the points, but hey, fandom is an irrational thing.
