After cruising past Burton Albion on Tuesday night, Liverpool have tonight been drawn with Derby County in the newly branded English Football League Cup.
Derby - home of eternal Liverpool transfer target Will Hughes, as well as former Reds Tom Ince and Scott Carson - have made a less than auspicious start to the season, winning once, drawing twice, and losing once in their opening four fixtures, having scored only a single goal. They made their way to the third round with a 14-13 penalty win over Carlisle united on Tuesday night. They are managed by notorious ostrich authority Nigel Pearson.
Liverpool - recognised as the most successful team in the history of the League Cup, with eight wins - have been exciting, but uneven, notching two wins and a loss in their three matches this season, recording a goal difference of 9-5. As the club is only competing on three fronts this year, it is likely that manager Jürgen Klopp will continue the trend of fielding strong sides in an effort to win the tournament.
The game will be played at Pride Park on the 20th or 21st of September.
