Crystal Palace have signed Christian Benteke for a club record £27 million from Liverpool FC. A further £5 million in add-ons will take the deal to £32 million, essentially recouping the £32.5 million Liverpool paid for the striker 13 months ago. The 25-year-old has signed a four-year deal with the South London side.
Crystal Palace have been involved in many weeks of bids and negotiations to secure the former Aston Villa striker who scored 10 goals in 42 appearances last season. Michy Batshuayi was Alan Pardew's top target, but as soon as the 22-year-old Belgian joined Chelsea, Benteke was swiftly seen as a viable alternative.
Benteke becomes Crystal Palace's fourth signing of the summer and should suit a direct and quick side that crosses the ball a great deal. The Belgian international is Liverpool's biggest sale this summer and will now hope to resume a promising career in the Premier League.
