Liverpool and AC Milan face-off in a battle of European giants.

Five times European Cup winners Liverpool face off against a familiar nemesis, seven times European Cup winners AC Milan.

Come, take a moment to stop grieving over Loris Karius' broken hand and join us for the Reds' second preseason tilt against a team of note. Having lost one-nil to a negative Chelsea in a chippy contest, the Reds will hope to bounce back against another sleeping giant.

Like Liverpool, Milan have fallen on hard times, finishing 8th, 10th, and 7th the past three years. One might be forgiven for a touch of schadenfreude given the presence of a certain owner, but for football fans afflicted with nostalgia, it's hard not to feel a bit melancholy to see the club responsible for football's royal family fall on such hard times.

While the Reds look to rebound, Milan is coming off a win on penalties against Bayern. Under their new manager, Vincenzo Montella - affectionately known as L'Aeroplanino in his playing days - the Rossoneri supposedly will chase the white rabbit that is "attacking, free-flowing football" while employing a 4-2-3-1.

One hopes our opponents sort out their house and achieve a Champions League berth while we do the same, perhaps setting the table for a tie-breaker after '05 and '07.

A tie dripping with history, Reds. Enjoy.
