Liverpool have kept things fairly simple and classic with their home and away kits this season, with a clean red home number and black with red detailing on the away. That always meant that there was a decent chance the third kit would be just a little more out there.
To that end, there have been pictures floating around for a few weeks now of a two-tone lime green stripe body with dark grey shoulders third kit. Today, that lime green number goes from leaks and speculation to confirmed and reality, and it’s likely going to scare off more people than it convinces.

That doesn’t have to be a bad thing, though. It is, after all the third kit. And it does have a certain cohesiveness once one accepts that it’s lime green—the stripe detailing; the way the shoulders match the socks. If one were to imagine a lime green third kit, it’s possible to imagine far, far worse.

Plus at least it’s not like that time Adidas gave Liverpool a third kit with blue detailing. Still, at the end of the day, what New Balance has given us is a lime green kit that not many people are going to want to wear to the park or the pub. But for that most of us, there are the home and away ones.

And really, if the club win a whole bunch of stuff while wearing it three or four times, nobody’s going to mind. So. For anyone out there who always wanted a Liverpool shirt but really, really wanted something that could double as a night cycling jersey? This is your chance. This is your time.
