Liverpool are still waiting on the return of their English, Belgian, and German players following a summer filled with international football, but everybody else is back and in the full swing of pre-season training following three friendly victories in the past two weeks.
Up next for the Reds are Huddersfield Town and, for manager Jürgen Klopp, a 90-minute reunion with friend and confidant David Wagner. The two worked together at Borussia Dortmund, and it was Wagner who recommended left back target Ben Chilwell to Klopp earlier in the year.
Wagner arrived at Huddersfield shortly after Klopp joined Liverpool last autumn to steady the ship, ensuring their Championship survival. This season, the goal is pushing higher up the table and perhaps even challenging for a playoff spot.
For Huddersfield, this is game number five of pre-season. And like Liverpool, so far they’ve won every one of them, beating lower league Guiseley, League Two’s Accrington Stanley, and then League One’s Rochdale AFC and Oldham Athletic by a combined score of 9-1.
