Oh, you thought this was about Alexandre Lacazette? Sorry not sorry. Instead, the rumors this morning surround Lyon winger Rachid Ghezzal.
The 24-year-old Algerian international has one year left on his contract, and the French side don’t appear overly confident in their ability to get Ghezzal to sign an extension. The newspaper L'Equipe are reporting that Liverpool were interested in signing the player back in January, so naturally the Reds must be in for him again. Apparently Middlesbrough, Celta Vigo, and Villarreal are also monitoring the situation.
I don’t recall hearing about these rumors back in January, but he does fit Liverpool rumor mongering criteria for wingers insofar as he plays in Europe and can fog a mirror.
This is not to say that Ghezzal wouldn’t be worth looking into as a potential transfer, particularly if Liverpool can get him with the “failed contract extension” discount. He had a bit of a breakout season for Lyon, scoring 10 goals and creating 9 assists in 38 appearances across all competitions.
Still, this transfer gossip feels more like wild speculation as opposed to actual news.
