Even though Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy grabbed most of the attention from Leicester City's stunning title run, midfielder N'Golo Kante was perhaps just as important to the club's performance.
The midfield engine is the type of player that forms the backbone of a squad. As such, a race to sign him has kicked off this summer, with almost all of the top caliber teams in Europe rumored to be after him.
Liverpool are now part of that pursuit, according to the Daily Star. The report claims that Kante has a £22 million release clause in his contract that has enticed Jürgen Klopp along with some of the Premier League's other big name managers.
Kante, who is 25, was bought by Leicester City last summer from Caen for just £5.6 million. His breakthrough campaign justifies his reported release clause, however, implicating that a summer move could be on the cards.
Still, it seems unlikely that Liverpool, competing for signings without the promise of Champions League football, would be the club to lure the French star away from a place that has fueled his development over the past year. But don't let that stop your dreams.
