US Liverpool fans will get another chance to catch a mixed bag of first-teamers, yutes and backups this summer, as the club today revealed they will face Roma at the Busch Stadium in St. Louis on August 1st. This will be the third time in three US tours the Reds face Roma, and they will be looking to record their first triumph. In both 2012 and 2014, the two clubs met at Fenway Park and on both occasions, the Italians were the victors, securing 2-1 and 1-0 wins. The fixture is not part of the International Champions Cup that takes place in the United States, in which Klopp's men will take on Chelsea and AC Milan in Pasadena and Santa Clara, respectively.
Speaking at an event at the stadium today, Liverpool chief commercial officer Billy Hogan was appropriately enthusiastic:
"We’re very much looking forward to seeing our fans from Missouri and the wider Midwest in St Louis.
"Busch Stadium has played host to many fantastic events from MLB All-Star games to concerts to World Series games, so it’s only fitting that an historic club like Liverpool FC should play there when visiting this terrific sports city."
The Roma match becomes Liverpool's 8th confirmed pre-season game to take place between traveling to Tranmere on July 8th and hosting Barcelona at Wembley on August 6th, and will likely rank somewhere in the middle of that list in terms of fan interest. Tickets will be made available to official supporter clubs first, and then go on sale to the general public on Wednesday June 8th at 4PM BST / 11 AM EST via the Cardinals website.
