Many assumed that Joao Carlos Teixeira would see more first team action this season, especially given the protracted injury crisis that the team faced. However, the talented Portuguese midfielder only made a handful of appearances for Klopp.
He's still making his presence felt for the U21s, though. Tuesday he scored two goals in a runaway Liverpool victory against Chesterfield. His second goal in particular, was a stunning chip over the Chesterfield keeper. Jerome Sinclair also got in on the action, scoring the fifth and final goal for Liverpool. Brooks Lennon and Ryan Kent were the other goalscorers, with Lennon opening up the scoring after only 22 seconds.
After the game, U21 manager Michael Beale told the official website:
"We played really well and it was a great performance. Brooks scored inside the opening 22 seconds with an excellent finish and we played some excellent football.
"Joao scored a brilliant goal and was superb alongside Kent who was in fine form. Adam Phillips also came in and did really well and I was delighted with Kane who made his first start. It was a really good night and brilliant we could come down here and raise some funds for Chesterfield's academy."
