While Liverpool's senior team remains months away from returning to competitive action, the under-21 Reds started their two match end-of-season tour in the United States with a disappointing 2-1 loss to Sacramento FC.
The Liverpool side, which featured Ryan Kent, Kevin Stewart, Connor Randall and Cameron Brannagan, will face Sacramento FC again on Wednesday in Reno, Nevada.
Michael Beale, who manages the u-21 Reds, was encouraged by a solid second half performance in the loss after flying into the states "a couple of days ago" with "a really young team."
"I thought Sacramento settled into the game much better than us and they played well first half," Beale said (per the Echo). "We made some adjustments second half and made the game really exciting, keeping our forwards up the pitch a little bit more."
"We scored a really good goal second half and then, to be fair, maybe a little bit of inexperience showed but now we'll look to reverse that score next week," he added.
Kent notched Liverpool's lone goal in the contest, continuing to impress as one of the club's brightest youth talents.
