Eighteen-year-old Sheyi Ojo might just be the Academy prospect Liverpool fans are most excited about right now. On Monday evening, the young winger showed once again why he's caught the eye against Middlesbrough, capping off an excellent hat trick with an 89th minute penalty that won the game in dramatic fashion.
Asked about the achievement after the game, he was quick to downplay his own involvement in favor of emphasizing the team taking all three points.
"It's nice to get a hat-trick but the main focus was to get the three points, which we did. So I'm happy for that," he said. "Hopefully I can impress [Klopp] whenever I get the opportunity but for now I'm playing U21 games. So I'll keep trying my best, keep learning, and hopefully I can push on from there."
In fact, despite his treble, Ojo was critical of his own performance and says he's looking for ways to continue improving.
"Especially for the attacking players, the manager is always saying we've got to be ruthless," he said. "For me, I could have probably scored even more goals, I need to work on that as well. But going into the next couple of games everyone can use that as a lesson learned."
Opportunities in the first team will be limited as the season winds down, but continuing to impress could pave the way for more appearances in pre-season and then in 2016-17.
