Liverpool’s Player of the Month: February

Following an up and down February that saw Liverpool advance in Europe but fail to end their silverware drought, we want to know who your pick was for player of the month.

With their top four hopes finished, there were two goals for Liverpool heading into February: win the League Cup and advance to the Round of 16 in the Europa League. They just about managed the latter, narrowly edging Augsburg by an aggregate score of 1-0 over two legs. They couldn’t pull off the former, losing to Manchester City on penalties over the weekend.

All told, and despite advancing in Europe, February can’t help but feel a bit of a disappointment for Liverpool, and a list of Player of the Month finalists where nobody really stood out from the pack somehow seems fitting in light of that. The nominal favourite, though, has to be Roberto Firmino, who was named Man of the Match once and came second in voting twice. Philippe Coutinho is next with 13 points.

Also in the running is the steady Nathaniel Clyne. He never earned Man of the Match honours, but he finished in the top five more than anyone else last month and earned 12 points in the process. At the other end of the spectrum, Lucas Leiva and Simon Mingolet only finished in the top five twice, but on both occasions they were named Man of the Match and so each earned 10 points.

Rounding things out, Kolo Toure and James Milner each earned eight points in Man of the Match voting by Liverpool Offside readers in February. Now it’s up to you to make the final call on which player deserves to take home Player of the Month honours and joins January winner Roberto Firmino on the list of Liverpool’s best players in the 2015-16 season.
