Mamadou Sakho is still in the doghouse at Liverpool. While he’s started playing for the Under-23s— a sign of progress, albeit a very small one— it’s unclear what, if anything, can mend his relationship with the club and with Jürgen Klopp in particular.
Despite all that, his relationship with the fans and the city seems as strong as ever. So much so that he took some Liverpool children and their families with him to Disneyland Paris.
His charitable foundation AMSAK released a video featuring him and his wife Majda meeting with a group of Liverpool children and their families who had recently fallen on hard times. After a nice dinner in Paris the night before, the Sakhos meet up again with the families before heading out to the theme park for a day the kids will never forget.
Sakho himself explained why this was important to him in the video opening.
“We invited these families to spend an unforgettable weekend in Paris to make them forget their troubles for a while. We had dinner in an African restaurant which meant a lot to me. British people coming to France to eat African food is the exact illustration of the values we want to share. We wanted the children to have a good time and I think we achieved that. My wife and I really wanted to share this moment with them.”
Are we sure we can’t keep Mamadou Sakho? Because he’s pretty great.
