Liverpool registered their second draw with Manchester United in two days. This time it was the U23s who faced off against Manchester United U23s at Leigh Sports Village on Tuesday night.
The Reds fielded a strong line up, including Marko Grujic, Danny Ings, and out-of-favor first team center-back Mamadou Sakho, but the hero of the night was the U23s captain Henry Wilson.
He nearly scored an assist early in the game when he played in Grujic, only to have the midfielder denied by United’s Sadiq El Fitouri. Then after 18 minutes, Wilson finished the job himself. He managed to get an important deflection on Pedro Chirivella’s shot, deceiving the goalkeeper and putting the Reds ahead.
Unfortunately, though they took the lead into half time, it was eradicated within five minutes of the restart. Chirivella again, this time fouling Scott McTominay in the box, gave away a penalty that Harrop cleanly tucked away.
Despite a few good chances in the dying moments, Michael Beale’s men only came out of the game with a single point against their rivals.
