How's this for a twist? Verbal Kint is Keyser Soze, Bruce Willis was dead the whole time, and Liverpool have offered out of favor -- except in our hearts -- defender Mamadou Sakho a new contract. According to the Guardian, the new deal would see Sakho's wages raise from about £75,000 to £100,000 per week.
Don't bust out the fireworks yet, though, because Sakho is likely going to need assurances from Rodgers about his first team playing time before committing more of his future to the club. Considering the French defender didn't even make the bench in the opening two games of the season, this is far from a guarantee. Sakho left his boyhood club, PSG, when he wasn't getting enough playing time leading up to the World Cup. Since this summer is a Euros year, he will have the same priorities.
Sakho's plight has garnered him interest from Roma and Bayer Leverkusen, with both teams reportedly making bids for his services. He is a 25-year-old France international who needs to be playing every week. Hopefully, Liverpool can promise him that, otherwise these negotiations aren't likely to get off the ground. Regardless, this, at least, is a rumor that Liverpool fans can be tentatively cheerful about.
