Liverpool are on the hunt for an impact striker that can bolster an inconsistent attack, and one name that has repeatedly popped up is Gonzalo Higuain. However, it seems unlikely that Liverpool will convince the prolific goal scorer to come to Anfield. But there's another Napoli forward who also used to play for Real Madrid that might make the switch, according to the Metro. That man is 28-year-old Jose Callejon, who started every league game for Napoli this season and scored 11 goals.
The report states that the loss of manager Rafa Benitez will lead to a mass exodus and that Callejon has been made available for around £7 million. That's a cut-rate fee for a player that has scored 26 league goals in two seasons for a Napoli team that bought him for around £8.5 million in 2013.
If Callejon is indeed available for such a reasonable price then Liverpool must consider making a run for his services. He might not be the flashiest target, but he's very capable of scoring goals and versatile enough slot into most positions across the front line.
Until further reports emerge though, it would be wise to remain a bit skeptical about this rumour. It would be surprising for Napoli to sell Callejon for such a low fee, and there's no guarantee that Liverpool are even interested in the player.
