When Liverpool brought in Javier Manquillo, they knew they were getting a good player. They just didn't know he was this good. It's just a shame his best performance wasn't on the pitch.
Turns out, he's a wicked good table tennis player. Who knew?
Manquillo won a small table tennis tournament held by some of the players after training recently, and the whole thing was caught on LFC.tv -- a subscription is necessary to view the video, sadly, but the Mirror has a clip of it. The tournament for some reason only included Liverpool's Spanish contingent of Manquillo, Alberto Moreno, and Jose Enrique
The Mirror's clip actually shows Manquillo going down 2-1 early thanks to a clumsy whiff on an impressive recovery shot from Moreno, which seems hilariously apt given how the two have been performing. Manquillo recovered to overcome the deficit and beat Moreno, then took down Enrique as well to claim the title.
His performance is a marked improvement over a doubles match the pair played several weeks ago that saw Manquillo fall on the table and collapse it. Someone's been putting in training time!
