Liverpool FC Transfer News: Reds to Poach Leicester City Starlet

According to multiple reports, Liverpool are favourites to land Leicester City starlet Ben Chilwell, but as the supposed deal wouldn’t happen until the summer there’s plenty of time for things to change.

With Leicester City shocking the football world and ending the first half of the 2015-16 season genuine title contenders in the Premier League, there were always bound to be rumours linking a few of their players with moves to richer clubs.

Most, though, expected it to be the likes of Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez that England’s more traditional powers would seek to poach and not a 19-year-old left back who isn’t even playing for Leicester this season. That’s just the player Liverpool have been linked to, though.

Ben Chilwell is a highly rated Leicester City youth product who is currently spending time out on loan at mid-table Championship club Huddersfield Town. Having been sent there on a two-month youth loan in November, he’s already made seven appearances for The Terriers.

Before making the move, he was handed his senior debut for Leicester in the League Cup against Hull City in October. According to multiple reports, Liverpool’s scouting team has been watching Chilwell at the youth level for some time and have him a highly rated target.

Since his Championship loan, new manager Jürgen Klopp has reportedly watched the young left back in action and is similarly high on the English youngster. In the past, there have been reports of interest fro Arsenal and Tottenham, though as of now Liverpool appear the most serious suitor.

That interest, though, isn’t expected to result in a January transfer offer. Instead, rumour has it that Liverpool will move for Chilwell next summer. Which would seem to leave an awful lot of time for a supposedly solid link to a promising English youngster to fizzle.

Over the past few years, Liverpool are supposed to have been heavy favourites to land the likes of Sam Byram, Will Hughes, and Dele Ali only to see nothing come of the rumoured moves in the end.
