At the moment, with all the Klopptimism™, improved results, and ETW not sadness unsadness? happiness surrounding the club, it is unlikely that Liverpool supporters will be feeling a sense of "buyers' remorse" any time soon. Still, fans might be pleased to know that Liverpool could have landed Carlo Ancelotti, had Jürgen Klopp not signed on the dotted line.
In an interview, the 3-time Champions League winning manager reiterated his previous statements about how there was no contact between himself and the club, but also indicated that he would have likely come to Anfield if asked.
"I did not speak with them. If I spoke with them then I can say ‘yes', but no, I did not."
Ancelotti had very complimentary things to say about the current Liverpool squad and about the new boss.
"I think Liverpool are a good team," he added. "They have some really good young players — Coutinho, Firmino, Benteke. If they can find an experienced player like Gerrard or Carragher — an example to the squad — I think they can be really competitive.
"They made the right appointment in Klopp. He is a good manager. With the best managers you see their identity in their team. Klopp's Dortmund team had a very strong identity."
That identity has already started to show, despite the letdown against Crystal Palace before the break. There's no doubt that Ancelotti would have been an incredible hire for Liverpool, but Klopp certainly isn't making us regret the decision.
