With a 1-0 win over Bournemouth at Anfield on Wednesday evening, Liverpool advanced to the quarterfinals of the League Cup. The draw to determine their next opponents took place after the match, and Liverpool ended up with a familiar foe they've already faced in the league this season.

Liverpool have faced Southampton on six previous occasions in the League Cup, four of those matches coming in the Third Round and the remaining two in the two-leg semi-final in 1987. They haven't met in this competition since the fall of 2002, though after beating Southampton in the Third Round Liverpool went on to win the cup over Manchester United.
Incidentally, Manchester United did not progress to the quarterfinals, having lost on penalties to Middlesbrough, who will now face Everton. Stoke City vs Sheffield Wednesday and Manchester City vs Hull City round out the remaining matches in this round of the competition.
