Well That Escalated Quickly: Liverpool Reportedly Agree Personal Terms with Valdes

Reports out of Spain on deadline day linked Victor Valdes with a move to Liverpool, and now it seems that the player has agreed personal terms with the club.

Victor Valdes has played an unfortunate role in Liverpool transfer shenanigans for the last year or so. As Pepe Reina publicly courted a possible move to Barcelona, the only thing standing in his way was Valdes' occupancy between the sticks at Camp Nou. Reina ended up first at Napoli and then Bayern Munich, and now the player whose place he once hoped to take is seemingly set to replace Reina on Liverpool's books. Awkward.

Although the transfer window is shut for the time being, players such as Valdes who are out of contract are still able to sign as free agents with any club who will have them. Liverpool were reportedly waiting to see about Valdes' fitness as he recovers from an ACL injury before making any kind of formal offer, but now it seems that the club and player have agreed personal terms for the players services, according to the Daily Express.

What prompted the change of heart remains unclear. At thirty-two, despite the injury Valdes is still a good pick up for any club on a free, and it's not hard to imagine that while Liverpool might have previously been content to wait and see on the player, other clubs might have tried to scoop up the Spaniard earlier.

Despite the sudden fast tracking of the deal, it won't impact Valdes' availablity for Brendan Rodgers' squad. The player still is unlikely to see any action for at least another month as he continues to recover from the ACL injury.
