From transfer news to actual match-related things as Liverpool face the 2013-2014 Greek Super League champions in Chicago, and the promise of at least a few more squad regulars taking part. There should be at least four or five faces involved that we haven't yet seen in the preseason, as well as reports of a few more that are ruled out through injury, including Daniel Agger and Fabio Borini.

Olympiacos got their North American travels underway with a comfortable 3-0 win over AC Milan in Toronto, with goals from Alejandro Dominguez, Dimitris Diamantakos, and Andreas Bouchalakis. The defending champs have been busy this summer, bringing in a host of names including Eric Abidal from Monaco and Patjim Kasami from Fulham. Like Liverpool, they're set to enter the Champions League--in Pot 2 or 3 depending on how things go--and will start their Super League campaign a week after things kick off in England.

Liverpool will have close to a full-strength squad available, and Brendan Rodgers has promised that the World Cup participants (aside from Mamadou Sakho and Simon Mignolet, who only returned yesterday) will feature along with new signing Lazar Markovic. That would have meant a first chance to see Adam Lallana in a Liverpool shirt, but on Friday we learned that the midfielder will be out a further four to six weeks with a knee injury suffered in training. Still, the promise of Markovic, Daniel Sturridge, Raheem Sterling, and Steven Gerrard along with more minutes for Jordan Henderson improves the quality of this Liverpool squad immensely.

Throw Emre Can, Lucas, Joe Allen, Rickie Lambert, Jordon Ibe, Suso, et al., and it's a Liverpool team starting to take shape, one that should be more competitive than the last few times out even as they continue to work their way toward full fitness.
