We've gone well over a week without writing an article about Adam Lallana, which is an awfully long time considering he was about the only thing we covered for a good few days. With the World Cup starting and Southampton still manager-less, that's not surprising, but it could also mean that Liverpool were never actually in for him and "him" probably doesn't really exist. Probably just those other things, though.
The dead space needs filling, of course, and Liverpool could do worse than being tenuously linked with Hoffenheim's Roberto Firmino while the papers search for proof of life on Lallana. Firmino's been a lust object for most of the spring after a terrific Bundesliga campaign; the 22-year-old scored 16 goals and had 11 assists in a Hoffenheim side that finished ninth, attracting interest from a number of clubs in England and beyond.
He certainly appears to fit the mold, and if £20m would actually be enough for a deal, he's a player worth pursuing. Young enough that he's still got plenty of growing to do, but as his performances this past season indicate, he's capable of having an impact now as an adaptable, forward-thinking playmaker.
File under "want very much," and then just wait for Metro to become a reputable source.
