Rickie Lambert Already On His Way to Becoming a Liverpool Favorite

New, comments

After passing his medical in Liverpool, Rickie Lambert was set to rejoin the England squad and gave a brief interview that gave clear insight into his feelings about a move 17 years in the making.

Rickie Lambert will have some convincing to do once he suits up for Liverpool in a match that means something, as there's plenty that remain skeptical of the deal. At 32, he's not one for those spending time on resale value or growth, and as the first signing of the summer, it's not a name many would have picked. But this doesn't really seem like a signing to spend much time analyzing or debating. Just give into the romance and sentiment, and enjoy the narrative of a player making the type of move that once seemed impossible.

Lambert is a likable, committed, talented professional, and as much as anyone deserves anything, he seems like the type of player who deserves the type of move that will be officially announced on Monday at the latest. Liverpool's interest was barely public before a fee had been agreed, and after spending Friday evening on the bench at Wembley, the Kirkby native returned to Liverpool for a medical on Saturday morning. With that settled, the soon to be announced forward headed back to the airport before joining back up with the England squad and heading to Miami for their final World Cup preparations.

Sky Sports naturally caught up with him at the airport before leaving Liverpool, and while he wasn't able to provide much in the way of verbal content, it still made for compelling viewing. Not yet a Liverpool player and plenty left to prove, but already one of my favorites.
