Liverpool's Under-21 squad went on a good run to end their season, gaining 10 points in the final 5 matches to clinch at worst second place in the Barclay's Under-21 Premier League. Until yesterday, only Manchester City and Chelsea were in with a shout to catch them. Sound familiar?
Jack Dunn who, of late has received more opportunities to play as a central striker than ever before, kicked off a superb goalscoring month with a brace during an exciting 5-2 victory over Newcastle. A game that was level at 2 after only twenty minutes ended up as a comfortable win for Liverpool, and a great way to start off a vital home stretch of the league campaign.
Alex Inglethorpe's side faced a setback against Fulham, when a late Dunn penalty was merely consolation for a poor performance, but in the next fixture, they hit back against Norwich with a fascinating 4-1 win. The score was 1-1 until the final few minutes, when Liverpool fired 3 very quick goals to seal the points for Liverpool.
In their next match, Liverpool battled harsh conditions and a very talented Chelsea side and pulled away a tense 1-0 victory. Aside from Dunn's goal and the result, the most notable fact from the match was Marc Pelosi's long awaited return from a severe leg break last season. He looked rusty, but no doubt his return provides hope for Liverpool and United States fans alike that Pelosi can rejoin the promising trajectory he seemed to be on prior.
Finally, in the season finale, Liverpool faced Everton in the mini-derby in a match that Inglethorpe would diplomatically describe as "poor". In reality, the pitch was poor, Everton's lads were once again quite dirty in the tackle, and Liverpool received little to no protection from the referees. Ultimately, though, job done, and top of the table or thereabouts clinched for the boys.
With the regular season officially over, all that remains to be seen is whether they will finish 1st or 2nd, and who Liverpool will play in the playoff round. We'll keep you posted.

Neil Critchley's Under-18 side had a mixed bag of results over the past month, with the finale seeing the boys hit the impressive 75 goal mark for the season. In the first match of the slate, Liverpool went ahead 1-0 thanks to an early goal by Alex O'Hanlon, but two second half goals granted Manchester City a hard-earned victory. In the next, 15 year-old Yan Dhanda, who has many hoping he can become the first player of Indian descent to play for Liverpool, made his anticipated under-18s debut after signing for the club in the summer. A tense game ended in another narrow defeat for Liverpool, with the lone goal coming from a poorly defended and bobbled ball that ran past the keeper was smashed in at the far post.
Liverpool finally broke its string of 4 consecutive defeats with a solid victory over Leicester City. Pedro Chirivella scored his first goal for Liverpool, and Jerome Sinclair scored the winner later in the game. Finally, in the most recent match, Liverpool returned to their rampant ways, putting 4 past West Brom, easing to a big win.
In contrast to the U21s, those early losses for the U18s put Liverpool in a precarious position with respect to qualifying for the semi-final of the league, and with their title hopes all but over, the squad can now relax and see out the final two matches of the season.
