Liverpool's Internationals Preview and Schedule, 03.05.14

The games don't much mean anything this time around with nothing but friendlies on offer, but a few Liverpool players do have a chance to stake their claim ahead of the summer's World Cup in Brazil.

With qualification fading in the rearview, we're into the first set of pre-World Cup friendlies as the countries heading to Brazil (and a few that aren't) look to work out the kinks and settle any remaining squad questions. Of particular note are Liverpool's five players on Roy Hodgson's England squad, but they won't be the only ones we're keeping a nervous eye on.

Israel v. Slovakia
Wednesday, March 5th
5:30PM GMT/12:30PM EST

Wednesday's Liverpool-related action kicks off with a pair of countries who won't be in Brazil this summer and only one Liverpool player involved, making it a tough sell for most. Martin Skrtel will captain Slovakia as they travel to Tel Aviv for a match that means nothing to either side, but for those exceptionally bored around kickoff, it's a thing that exists.

Austria v. Uruguay
Wednesday, March 5th
7:30PM GMT/2:30PM EST

Oscar Tabarez has stuck with a fairly settled squad for Uruguay's European friendly, and there's no surprise that Luis Suarez is amongst those on their way to Austria, with the striker expected to start as usual for the Copa America champions. With most of Uruguay's stars based in Europe, the sensible choice of opponent will be welcome by many, though for Liverpool fans the focus will be on hoping Tabarez alters his usual approach and chooses not to play Suarez for the full ninety minutes.

Belgium v. Ivory Coast
Wednesday, March 5th
7:45PM GMT/2:45PM EST

Given Belgium will be focused on getting ready for the World Cup, there's a fair chance Simon Mignolet makes way for Chelsea product Thibaut Courois after the Liverpool keeper was given a rare start last time out against Japan. On the other side of the pitch, after making his way back into the fringes of the Ivory Coast squad this season, Kolo Toure is likely to at least see some action for his country on Wednesday.

England v. Denmark
Wednesday, March 5th
8PM GMT/3PM EST

With Andros Townsend and Adam Lallana missing training with the England squad due to minor knocks, the chances of Raheem Sterling and Jordan Henderson seeing action against Denmark are even higher. Along with Steven Gerrard, Daniel Sturridge, and Glen Johnson, all five Liverpool representatives will likely see the pitch at some point, and with the club's title challenge the priority for most, most fans will be more concerned with seeing them come back healthy than in how they perform. Meanwhile on the Denmark side, with Daniel Agger fit again, the defender has been called up and is expected to captain his country at Wembley.

Odds & Ends

Despite having fallen out of favour at Liverpool, Victor Moses will join Nigeria for their friendly against Mexico in Atlanta, Georgia (1:30AM GMT (Thr.)/8:30PM EST) as the two sides look to prepare for the summer's World Cup. Though he has returned to training with Liverpool, Mamadou Sakho is not expected to take part in France's match against Netherlands (8PM GMT/3PM EST). Looking beyond Liverpool's players, Germany v. Chile (7:45PM GMT/2:45PM EST) likely offers the day's best chance for entertaining football.
