Liverpool Add Boston to Pre-Season Tour

Liverpool have today announced the addition of Boston to this year's pre-season tour, a move many expected but that will have fans on the west coast feeling left out yet again.

Following the official announcement in February of Liverpool's involvement in a pre-season mini-tournament alongside the likes of AC Milan, Manchester City, Inter Milan, and Real Madrid, the club have today confirmed a rather unsurprising extra pre-season tour date. Added to the already announced slate, Liverpool will also face Roma at Boston's Fenway Park on July 25th, two days before they face Olympiacos in Chicago.

The friendly is something of a rematch following a 2012 meeting between the two sides at Fenway as part of Liverpool's first pre-season tour under Brendan Rodgers. Roma won that match 2-1 with many of Liverpool's regulars having just returned from Euro 2012. Any Liverpool players representing a country that makes it into the knockout rounds at this summer's World Cup is likely to be absent this time around, too.

"We are pleased to announce the latest leg of our pre-season tour, which takes us back to Boston," said chief commercial officer Billy Hogan. "This fixture gives thousands of fans in and around New England the chance to see Liverpool play. I distinctly remember the atmosphere at the game two years ago. It was incredible. The singing from the fans made Fenway Park feel like Anfield for the night."

Given the club was already playing in Chicago, New York, and Charlotte, adding a date in Boston was always likely. Fans hoping for a west coast date, though, will be disappointed the club are once again overlooking Liverpool's strong following along the Pacific, and with Liverpool unlikely to visit the United States two years in a row, cities like Seattle and Los Angeles will be waiting until at least 2016.

Tickets for the match will go on sale on May 2nd through the club's official tour website.
