Saturday Open Thread: A Day Full of Appetizers

New, comments

The day before an important-seeming Liverpool match always seems to drag on, but thankfully there's a full slate of matches on tap to help pass the time.

England's two biggest matchups of the weekend don't take place until tomorrow--the North London Derby is set to kick off after Liverpool and Manchester United finish up at Anfield--but there's again a host of fixtures across England and Europe to get us through the next 24 hours. All levels of English football are set to run with their usual Saturday schedule, though in the top flight there aren't too many storylines to follow other than seeing if Cardiff City can follow up their impressive home win over Manchester City last weekend with another one against Everton.

Serie A has its typically meager Saturday offering, with only two fixtures on the calendar, while La Liga has just three on tap. In Germany Schalke--losers of two of their first three--host Sami Hyypia's unbeaten Bayer Leverkusen side, and later in the day Sporting CP welcome Benfica to the Estádio José Alvalade having scored nine goals in their first two matches.

As always, let ESPNFC's fixture list be your guide, and check local listings to see what's available in your area. Stateside viewers have NBCSN and NBC Sports Live Extra for the Premier League matches, while BeIN Sport will carry a few matches from across the continent and lower levels throughout the weekend. Feel free to discuss anything and everything below, but a reminder that links to online streams are not permitted.

Enjoy the day!
