Liverpool U18s 1 - Everton U18s 0, Saturday August 24th [Video]

Liverpool got their season on track with a win in the mini-mini-derby at Kirkby last Saturday. The attacking trio of Daniel Trickett-Smith, Ryan Kent, and Harry Wilson caused all sorts of problems for the Everton defense, with Kent, who was persistently fouled, finally winning a penalty which was converted by Nathan Burke. Continuing the 'academy emulating the first team' thing we've seen so far, Liverpool took the foot off the gas, which allowed Everton to build some momentum in the second half. And, because of course, Liverpool conceded a penalty in the 93rd minute and, even more of course, it was saved by Ryan Crump, who pulled a Mignolet and brilliantly saved the three points for the young reds.

Liverpool team: Crump, Connor Randall, Dan Cleary, Tom Brewitt, Sam Hart (Sam Roberts), Burke, Cameron Brannagan, Sheyi Ojo, Kent, Trickett-Smith (Alex O'Hanlon), Wilson. Unused subs: Andy Firth, Jack Alexander, Louis Robles.

Newark Liberty International Soccer Summit

After beating Everton the young reds hopped on a plane and flew to New York City in order to participate in the 21st edition of the Newark Liberty International Soccer Summit, hosting by New Jersey's St. Benedict's Preparatory School. The 8 team tournament started on Tuesday and will conclude tomorrow, and we will hopefully have expanded coverage of Liverpool's progress there. On Tuesday Liverpool overcame a poor first half to beat Colombian side Fuddercol 2-0, thanks to goals from Burke, again from a penalty, and substitute Louis Robles. Liverpool beat hosts St. Benedict's Prep on Wednesday 3-1 thanks to yet another penalty from Burke as well as goals by Wilson and Sergi Canos, who attended training under Marcos Senna and the New York Cosmos earlier in the day. Liverpool will face Maccabi Haifa later today and will need a win to ensure its place in the final on Saturday evening. Stay tuned for more.

The Under-21s

Alex Inglethorpe's side hasn't played since beating United on August 19th, and will face Leicester on Monday, at 7:00PM BST/2:00PM EST, live on LFC.tv. If a deadline day distraction is needed, we'll run a match thread.

General News & Notes

Sinclair Back in Training

The injury hit youth ranks received a bit of a boost this week with Jerome Sinclair's return to full training. His progress last season was one of the more exciting developments for those of us interested in such things, and we can only wish him a speedy recovery and an opportunity to prove himself at the under-21 level.

Canos and Chirivella Called Up to Spain U-17 Squad

Canos and Pedro Chirivella, two new signings from Spain who are already among our most promising prospects were drafted into Spain's under-17 squad for a match next week against Belgium. It's always nice to get positive reinforcement from a reputable national team for our tendency to overrate our young players, and rate them we do. Suerte, muchachos.
