With fans focused on league and cup action along with the rapidly dwindling summer transfer window, a quick reminder today that international friendlies and qualifiers are never too far off was served as Roy Hodgson named the England squad for September's looming World Cup qualifiers.
It's no surprise that Steven Gerrard, Daniel Sturridge, and Glen Johnson will be in the mix, but Raheem Sterling has also been called up to the England side set to face Moldova on the 6th of September before traveling to play the Ukraine and rumoured Liverpool target Andriy Yarmolenko on the 10th.
England currently stand second in Group H, two points behind surprise leaders Montenegro but with a game in hand and having played six of their 10 qualifiers. Ukraine, having also played six games to date, stand third with 11 points, while Moldova have managed only five in seven matches played.
Meanwhile, with Jordan Henderson now too old and Jonjo Shelvey having made the switch to Swansea, only Jack Robinson and Andre Wisdom are left on Liverpool's books to represent the club at the U21 level under new boss Gareth Southgate. The U21s will face Moldova and Finland.
