Suso puts in a full ninety minutes as Spain narrowly defeat Ghana 1-0 and seal qualification for the round of 16 on the strength of an early goal from Jese.

It didn't unfold quite as gently as it did against the US for Spain today versus Ghana, but in the end they took another three points and sealed advancement to the knockout stages. At times the young Spaniards were uncharacteristically wasteful in possession, and in failing to add to their lead they left themselves open to a nervy finish. Ghana pressed and pushed but couldn't find an equalizer, and now they'll need a win over the US to have any hope of joining Spain in the next round.

Suso captained the side and played a full ninety minutes, but like much of the Spanish squad, looked far more inconsistent this time out. Spain always manage to put together some nice stuff, and Suso was involved in a handful of nice passing moves and attacks, but he'll count a number of moments on the day as missed opportunities either to provide a final ball or finish off a chance himself.

Ultimately it came down to the goalscorers from the first match--Gerard Deulofeu and Jese--to combine for the winner, which Jese finished off after a well-played low cross from Deulofeu. Spain now face France on Thursday in the final match of group play, needing only a draw to win the group.
