Liverpool Target West Brom Return For Sturridge and Sterling

Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling are unavailable for international duty this week, but Liverpool hope both will be ready to face West Bromwich Albion on Monday.

With Daniel Sturridge sent home from the England camp and Raheem Sterling not even joining up with the U21s this week, first-team coach Mike Marsh today took the chance to clarify where the pair stand on the fitness front with an important match against West Brom on the horizon.

"They were not available to play for England due to the injuries they've picked up," said Marsh. "Raheem's has been a bit more long standing-in old school terms, he's got a dead leg-and Daniel picked his up at the weekend, but with a bit of luck and treatment hopefully they'll both be available for Monday night."

That Sterling's issue has been a problem for more than just the last day or two may explain his lack of involvement on Sunday against Manchester City, though that it seems he was included on the bench at less than 100% fitness has to raise questions.

It will also be concerning if Sturridge isn't fit to face West Brom on Monday given he picked up his injury in the first half against City and Liverpool's medical staff then judged him fit enough to play after the break.

With both injuries appearing minor, though, chances are the pair will be ready to at least make the bench against the Baggies—and they're likely to be joined by Philippe Coutinho, who has finished wrapping things up in Italy and started training at Melwood.
