Poll: Should Gerrard and Suarez Start v. Swansea?

New, comments

With Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard showing signs of fatigue after a season as Rodgers' key players, we want to know whether you would rest them or start them on Sunday against Swansea.

Against West Brom on Monday and then Zenit on Thursday, many began to ask if some of the problems Liverpool was having—and in particular the problem that was the lack of effectiveness of Steven Gerrard and the poor finishing of Luis Suarez—was the result of exhaustion. Had Brendan Rodgers overplayed his two biggest stars?

Gerrard and Suarez have been near constants for Rodgers, playing almost every minute of almost every match, whether it's in the league, Europe, or domestic cup competitions. Gerrard, in fact, has played every single minute in the Premier League for Rodgers.

Meanwhile, aside from missing out against West Ham due to an accumulation of yellows and coming off four minutes from time against Wigan, Luis Suarez has played every minute in the league. Along with Daniel Agger, who sat against Manchester City after picking up a red against West Brom in August but has otherwise started every league game, these are Brendan Rodgers' go-to players.

In Agger's case, the Danish defender has been given chances to rest outside of league play, but for Suarez and Gerrard there's reason to ask if too much football is beginning to hurt their performances. Coming off 180 minutes apiece in a four day stretch and with Swansea on Sunday and the return leg against Zenit next week, is it finally time to give the pair a break?

It's hard to imagine Rodgers sitting either against Swansea on Sunday given he's yet to defeat his former club and that Swansea now stand a point ahead of Liverpool in the league. But if Liverpool are to have any chance of coming back from a two goal deficit against Zenit in the Europa League, both players would almost certainly benefit from getting the weekend off.

So this week, we ask what you would like to see happen. Would you like to see Rodgers rest one or both of his key players against Swansea on the weekend, or will you be happy if when the teamsheets are released both are again in the starting eleven?
