Sunday Open Thread: Feelings Are Complicated Edition

New, comments

Everton visit Arsenal in Sunday's marquee matchup, and a handful of other matches will help get you through the end of the weekend.

Jamie McDonald

It's not really sport if you're not rooting for someone to fail spectacularly, and one of the Premier League's two Sunday matchups poses a bit of a challenge in that regard. On the one hand, an Arsenal loss would mean Liverpool stay four points off the league leaders and maintain slim hopes of challenging for a Premier League title, and on that same hand you're so endearingly delusional that I want to hug you if you think Liverpool are going to challenge for a Premier League title. On the other hand, an Everton loss would mean they slide off the top four pace ever so slightly. We'll call that the more realistic hand, and the one that, given Arsenal's blistering form through most of the fall, seems more likely. This is why feelings are stupid.

There are other matches that you might choose to pay attention to, and that includes Fulham v. Aston Villa in the Premier League early kickoff. That choice might not be a terrific one. Suso and Almeria will head to second division side Las Palmas in the Copa del Rey to give you your weekly coiffure-induced hot flashes, while Roma try to close the gap on Juventus to three points when they take on fifth-place Fiorentina in Serie A.
