Quick note on the emerging story around the Joe Cole transfer--prior to the match reports had him in London completing a medical, but rather than QPR it was West Ham, which would mean the former England international would be headed back to the club where he first broke through.
First, from the BBC Sport Twitter account, who was apparently sitting in on Brendan Rodgers' post-match interview:
FOOTBALL: Brendan Rodgers on Joe Cole: "He is obviously speaking with West Ham at the moment....it will be a terrific move for Joe."
— BBC Sport (@BBCSport) January 2, 2013
And James Pearce from the Liverpool Echo, who's been wonderfully reliable over the past few months, had this to say earlier in the day:
Liverpol FC midfielder Joe Cole is close to joining West Ham on a free transfer. The 31-year-old has been told by the Reds he can leave during the January transfer window and is in talks with the Hammers.
Queens Park Rangers have also made an approach to sign Cole but it's understood the former England international would prefer to return to Upton Park.
We'll have more once it's confirmed, but it's turned into a busy, busy day--Daniel Sturridge in, a rollicking 3-0 victory, and an exit in the works that should free up wages for someone on the way in over the next couple of windows. Not bad.
Update: More from Rodgers' post-match presser...
"I spoke to Joe twice earlier. He's in talks with West Ham and West Ham have obviously been in contact with the club.
"That was earlier on today so I don't know how that materialised. We'll see if something happens on that."
