As revealed by Brendan Rodgers at his pre-Manchester City press conference, the Nuri Sahin loan deal continues to inch towards completion today, with the Liverpool manager expecting all the paperwork to be sorted "within 24 hours."
Despite previous rumours that a permanent £14M fee had been agreed for next summer, Sahin is expected to arrive on a loan deal with no option to buy. In fact, it was Liverpool's willingness to accept a loan-only deal that in the end moved them ahead of Arsenal in the battle for the midfielder's services after the London club continued to push Madrid to set purchase price for next summer.
With the player needing to be registered with the English FA by noon on Friday in order to be eligible to play in the second round of Premier League games this weekend—a deadline that has already passed—even if the deal is finalised in the coming hours the midfielder will not be available to face Manchester City on Sunday.
