Danny Wilson Headed on Loan

Danny Wilson isn't quite Dani Pacheco, but his Liverpool career's been somewhat similar--arriving young and full of promise, but failing to find a breakthrough to the first-team after a number of years and seemingly only promised playing time if he heads somewhere else. He's never really been the subject of any sort of permanent moves elsewhere, but with only a handful of appearances in the senior squad, it's become clear that loans are the only opportunities he'll be afforded to feature consistently.

So news that he's headed to Bristol City for a two-month emergency loan spell isn't surprising, and judging by the quotes from manager Derek McInnes, the Scottish defender could see meaningful match action as soon as this weekend:

"He's had a frustrating time at Liverpool with chances limited. We thank Brendan Rodgers and Liverpool for accommodating this move.

"He's now got a chance to impose himself on our team and show what he can do. We've a lot of games to play between now and January, and with the absence of Lewin Nyatanga and Stephen McManus to injury, Danny's arrival is timely."

Any time Danny Wilson comes up it's a miniature revelation, as he's a player that not many have in mind on a regular basis, and what's further revelatory is that he's still only 20 years old. He joined in the summer of 2010 and went on to make nine appearances in the first team under Roy Hodgson and Kenny Dalglish, but spent most of last year at Blackpool and has only made the bench three times this season under Brendan Rodgers.

What his future at Liverpool holds is unclear given that, at least for the time being, he's far enough down the pecking order that Rodgers doesn't see fit to keep him around to play centrally or deputize at left-back in a pinch. Hopefully the brief loan at Bristol City holds regular minutes, and that it's successful for both him and the club, as both are in need of a boost at this point.
