Fernando Torres and Liverpool were made for one another. He's a class kid and we're a class club. How can you not love a player who turned down moves to Man U twice? Brilliant. Furthermore, he said Liverpool was the only other place for him as he has been an LFC fan his whole life. God love him.
How classy is El Nino? Well, before joining Liverpool, he had a press conference at Atletico's Vicente Calderon to bid farewell to the club he has always held near and dear to his heart. He also added that he would like to return, a la Robbie Fowler, to end his career in an Atletico kit.
A lot of people seem to be drawing comparisons between him and Fernando Morientes, who's stay at Anfield was less than memorable, but I think Benitez put it in the best perspective. He said that Torres is stronger and quicker than Morientes, which I concur, and will be able to handle the physicality of the EPL much easier. I don't see how he can fail and I know if he doesn't set the league on fire next year, there'll be plenty of dissenters, but Drogba only scored 22 goals in his first two EPL campaigns combined. Saying things like 'I want to be an Anfield hero' is only going to give Torres more time with the fans to allow him to adapt to his new surroundings.
