Jamie Carragher, professional comedian

Liverpool unveiled an about 40-minute podcast at the team Web site looking back on 2006, and, to my surprise at least, the jewel of the piece is Jamie Carragher's End of Year Awards.

You can download the podcast by following this link here.

After going through some of the standard stuff: Player of the Year, Goal of the Year, etc., the interviewer leads Carra down the road of setup->punchline, and our boy doesn't disappoint. Honorary Scouser of the Year? Carra says Didi Hamann would get it if he was still here, but instead, he honors Pepe Reina because he speaks pretty good English. Funniest Moment of the Year? Carra picks the time Pepe kicked a ball that hit the manager in the back of the head, sending him to the ground. Then, he second-guesses himself and suggests beating Everton at Anfield with 10 men. "It's always funny beating Everton, isn't it? Beating Everton at Anfield with 10 men is quite funny."

It gets better and sillier than that, though. Carra goes on for about 10 minutes, and it's well worth the download. Nightmare roommate? "It was Josemi. He'd be up all night watching videos or on his computer or ... (laughs)."

I just picture some hotel room in Istanbul, Carra trying to get some sleep before the European Cup final, and Josemi is up at 4 a.m., watching a Knight Rider rerun on TV and blogging about the food in Turkey. Odd, funny stuff from Jamie Carragher, great if for nothing else than to hear about how bad of a dresser Craig Bellamy is.
