Despite the fact that Liverpool have accepted a £5.5M offer from Fenerbahce for Martin Skrtel, the Liverpool and Slovakia defender is yet to decide if he will make the move to the Turkish club. According to his agent, he’s still expecting other clubs to step forward with offers and won’t decide until he has a few options.
"There are three clubs who really want him," said agent Karol Csonto, referring to recent reports of interest from Wolfsburg and an unnamed club from the Chinese Super League. "And we expect Galatasaray and Besiktas to make a good offer, too. Skrtel will then consider what is the best option for him when he is done at the European Championships."
Reports earlier in the week that Liverpool had accepted Fenerbahce’s £5.5M bid had led many to assume the Turkish club was Skrtel’s preferred destination. Given Liverpool had previously been rumoured to be seeking closer to £8M for Skrtel, it seemed a case of accepting a bid below the odds to allow a long-time servant to get the move he wanted.
It appears, though, that that isn’t the case and that it has simply set the market for the player. Now, over the next few weeks, Skrtel will wait to see which of the other four clubs—Wolfsburg and Besiktas and Galatasaray and the unnamed CSL club—step up with an offer and, if they do, how it compares to the one made by Fenerbahce.
