The Disillusioned: Crazy Season Scouting

January is almost over and with that comes changes. Changes to teams in the BPL, but more importantly changes to the data we have at our disposal. A few "Player Analysis" posts back, TLO commenter Kenchingy re-awakened a bug in my head regarding these stats I've been compiling. Mainly, the ability to reduce the amount of work (I'm lazy) whilst at the same time increasing the scope of the data. After some work I'm happy to report I have a new system in place, one that allows us to grab the BPL game data for every game, every team, and every player at the touch of a button. Wisely or not, I still have to press that button for each individual game day, so there's still some work to do, but it beats what it took before. We also can go back to 2001 (although currently only 2014/15 are in the DB). We've also got some new stats to play with - shots, shots on goal, goals, fouls drawn, fouls conceded, assists, yellow cards, red cards, appearances v bench warming, in addition to the numbers we had before.

So, I was thinking, given that we're nearing the end of crazy season (aka the transfer window) and Liverpool have no one solidly linked, who can we make a desperation last-minute bid for?

The Disillusioned, that's who.

With the data at our disposal, I propose we define the disillusioned as those poor souls who've been available for more than 12 matches, but only appeared in at most 12. To keep the scrubs out, we'll also stipulate that they must have at least 300 minutes of game time this season.

Once we've identified the top 5 in each position (G, D, M and F), all that's left is for Mssr. Ayre to swoop in on his little bike and carry them back to whoever is pretending to be Dr. Zaf (sob) these days.

Here we go...

For goalies, ga_net is probably more important than net which would put Hamer ahead of Martinez...

With the exception of Rosicky these guys have actually played in a good pct of the games for which they were available, albeit as subs. Lucas is #7 on this list....

Altidore??? Believe it or not he's one ahead of Mr. Balotelli in this list...

So there you have it - an easy list for Mr. Ayre to cut out and tape to his handlebars as he travels the countryside looking for the next Red.
