Liverpool Nearing Full Fitness Just in Time to Challenge Chelsea, City, and Arsenal

After a trying run of injuries, Liverpool are nearing full fitness just in time for a title push, but goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is doing his best to keep his focus on taking things one game at a time.

With the season into its final third and Liverpool edging back towards full fitness, Simon Mignolet believes the club are well positioned for a late push in the Premier League. Daniel Agger and Glen Johnson both returned to the starting eleven last weekend, and while Lucas Leiva's return remains a little ways off, Mamadou Sakho could be ready to go against Southampton.

"Every single individual in the squad is very important for us," said Mignolet in a conversation with LFCtv. "We're happy that Dan and Johnno came back into the squad at the weekend. Lucas and Mama are working really hard to get back, with the others as well. I'm sure we've got the squad to get through the last games of the season."

Liverpool may not have the depth of Chelsea, Manchester City, or Arsenal, but with the squad on the verge of full fitness, they do have 14 or 15 players good enough to go toe to toe with the sides currently ahead of them. And with the three sides currently ahead of them having to worry about European commitments, the league title race could yet become a four club affair.

"We just have to look at the games we play," added the goalkeeper. "We don't really have to think about what other teams have to do or who other teams have to play. We just have to prepare ourselves for our own games—I'm sure that we will do that.

"It's not about thinking what's going to happen at the end of the season. We've got Southampton at the weekend and we're focusing on that. The next game is the most important one, not what's coming after that. We'll focus ourselves on that single game."

With important matches against Tottenham, Manchester City, and Chelsea all at Anfield, that next single game—Southampton away—could be Liverpool's toughest road test from here until the end of the season, and three points there could prove they truly belong in the title race.
