Last season all of us were presented with the gift of 'Coutinho'.... I could imagine people pawing through fifa 13 to find his stats or frantically searching for videos on youtube with various misspellings of his name no doubt... took me a couple of attempts.
There wasn't much faith in Brendan's scouting abilities and Sturridge was also greeted with some groans.
It didn't take long for both to prove their worth and Coutinho became Anfield's magician who we all feel protective over. He has given such much already that we were lacking.....it was as if we were kicked to the turf at the exact moment he was and now Liverpool are struggling without him. It seems that many are now aggressively demanding they know better than Brendan Rogers and that we should have bought (the guy mentioned in the title). I hold my hands up and say that I had wanted us to sign him last season..and even this summer the idea seemed nice.
In all realism though....there is no room for two #10's who are both starters. Coutinho is not a bench warmer nor an understudy...and neither is (you know who). Alberto for me was bought to shadow Coutinho and we have all witnessed how effective we are when our little Unicorn (to some people) is playing and we have also witnessed the obvious problems he causes the opposition because they had resorted to kicking him off the pitch whenever possible this season...including the veteran Giggs.
So my point is? I feel we need a solid Defensive midfielder and holding midfielder more so ( I miss Sahin) and it may seem great to have a squad packed completely with stars but we don't have the budget or status to bring them in so it's not realistic. Yes we need two or three players at least of a higher grade than we have now in some positions....but the Liverpool way is that we create them also.
